Colin Trevorrow’s time in the Star Wars universe came to a screeching halt. The director got walking papers as he was gearing up to begin shooting Episode IX. Now, some of the concept art from his film leaked online.
Trevorrow’s vision for Episode IX was very different from the film J.J. Abrams gave us with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Last week, a supposed script for Trevorrow’s version hit the internet, and showed the world a very different Star Wars.
The script was riddled with a completely new finish to the Skywalker Saga. In many instances, it was a film more in line with fan expectation. A stark contrast from The Rise of Skywalker, which looked to give fans something different, and attempted to subvert expectations.
Today, concept art popped up on the internet claiming to be from Trevorrow’s film, titled Star Wars; Duel of the Fates. The script released was verified as the official script. The same ‘leakers’ also dropped the artwork.
The Playlist confirm the concept art is real. Check it all out in the slideshow below:
The art matches specific details from the leaked script, and feature Coruscant occupied by the First Order, Kylo Ren facing off a nightmare version of Darth Vader, and Daisy Ridley’s Rey looking very much like Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi brandishing a double light saber, and more.
Trevorrow also took to Twitter to clear up one image that may have fans worried:
The images help visualize the dead film, but they’re not necessarily convincing. Though the images look fantastic, it reveals a film that leaned heavily on only the established Galaxy Far, Far Away.
It would provide the fanbase with new characters, but would it really be better? Trevorrow’s version is definitely better for fans who loved Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, where as Abrams tried to fix the mistakes the last film made.
