More details emerge daily about how Robert Pattinson landed the starring role in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
This time, Batman needed to be younger, naive, and willing to learn. So, how did Pattinson win Reeves and Warner Brothers over? According to a report at Heat Vision, Pattinson screen-tested for the role immediately after appearing at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
A source says that the casting for the film was smooth and “quicker than normal”. Superman and Spider-Man required dozens of screen tests. Nicholas Holt also screen-tested for the role in a Batsuit, but ultimately lost to Pattinson.
Both actors used Batsuits from past live-action Caped Crusader films. Reeves’ wrote his Batman as a thirtysomething coming into his own. This film’s not another tired origin tale. It finds Bruce Wayne as he becomes the great detective.
Both actors had a pre-negotiated deal in place, waiting for whoever won the role. The next step for Pattinson is to get fitted for his very own Batsuit and begin training.
