Mary Poppins Returns star and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is reportedly planning on writing an animated msical for the House of Mouse. The musical will feature a young Latina heroine.
The report comes via Page Six. According to the paper, Miranda’s father, Luis, says:
“He is talking to Disney about a sequel to Moana, but the movie would be about a Latina princess.”

Miranda co-wrote the 2016 Disney songs “How Far I’ll Go” and “You’re Welcome” from Moana. Disney has yet to make any comment regarding a sequel for Moana.
The studio currently has no official comment about a sequel to the 2016 film. This film may well end up being the next princess film for Disney. Moana made $643 million worldwide at the box office.

An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder.
Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds.
