On the 12th of November, Disney+ celebrated its second anniversary with a special event. During the day, they announced a list of shows and movies coming to the streaming service.
Some of these are Hocus Pocus 2, Disenchanted, The Spiderwick Chronicles and Willow.
However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was also there. She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms Marvel are involved in a 14-minute video. We already know I am Groot, Ironheart, Armor Wars and Secret Invasion are happening.
Let’s take a look at the new confirmed projects below.
Animation
The first project is one to make 90s X-Men fans happy. A new X-Men animated series is in production and arrives in 2023. Its title is X-Men 97. A press release confirms it’s a revival of a fan-favorite X-Men animated series.
Thankfully, some of the original cast is returning. These are Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Alison Sealy-Smith, Chris Potter, Catherine Disher, Adrian Hough, and Christopher Britton.
Moreover, they are joined by several new names in the series.
Although, fans may recognise some of their names. Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio are the new cast members.
The next project is What If…? season 2. The first season features characters from the MCU but with different stories. Instead of Steve Rogers becoming Captain America, Peggy Carter gets the super serum and becomes Captain Carter.
It’s unknown what we’ll see in the next season but there’s a good chance the cut episode from season 1 will be there. This features Gamora in Thanos’ armor and Tony Stark partying on Sakaar.
Spider-Man: Freshman Year is an animated original series. A new Spider-Man series is exciting news enough, but there’s more reason to be excited.
This series takes place within the MCU and is set before Captain America: Civil War.
This means we’ll see Tom Holland’s Peter Parker’s origin and possibly the death of Uncle Ben. If it happens, it’ll be the first time we see Uncle Ben in the MCU.
Although, Spider-Man: Far From Home has an easter egg with Ben’s initials on a suitcase.
For now, we’re unsure who’s voicing Peter Parker.
What If…? season one reimagines the Marvel heroes as zombies. It’s an adaptation of the comic series Marvel Zombies by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
We’ll be seeing more of the heroes as zombies as an animated Marvel Zombies is coming to the streaming service.
According to the synopsis a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge. It’s unclear if it has connections to the What If…? episode.
However, with that episode using a lot of the characters already, they might need to use it in a new world.
Bryan Andrews is directing the series while Zeb Wells is writing.
Live-Action
Echo is technically a spin-off of the upcoming Hawkeye show. It stars Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez who is able to replicate any move she sees someone else do.
She’s also a deaf character, giving more representation in the MCU after Laurie Ridloff’s Makkari in Eternals.
Marion Dayre is leading the writer’s room for the series. It’ll be interesting to see who else features in the series, and maybe we’ll get a hint of that in Hawkeye.
One of the standouts from Marvel this year comes from Wandavision. Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness is a fan-favorite and Marvel are capitalising on that.
Coming soon, Agatha: House of Harkness is coming to Disney+.
The series promises to reveal more about Agatha. Jac Schaefer, the head writer of Wandavision returns to write the series.
These are all of the new Marvel Disney+ show announcements from Disney+. As someone who loves the 90s X-Men animated series, I can’t wait to see its return. Although, all of the announcements have potential.
Eternals is currently in theatres worldwide meanwhile Hawkeye arrives on Disney+ on Wednesday the 24th of November.
