Disney Puts Multiple Fox Films on the Chopping Block

It was an inevitable move in the wake of the Disney/ Fox merger. Not every film Twentieth Century Fox had in production would make the cut with Disney. Now comes news of the first films to get the wrath of the Mouse House.

The first film to get the Disney axe was the highly-anticipated Mouse Guard. According to a new report at THR, Disney is just getting started. Disney Studio Chief Alan Horn is at the helm of the culling.

The Paul Greengrass drama News of the World and an adaptation of Angie Thomas’ novel On the Come Up were both put into turnaround. Turnaround is where the film is cancelled and everything completed up to that point is sold off. Both films were grabbed up by Universal and Paramount respectively.

Now, a new film is under the axe, Ted Melfi’s mental hospital-set film Fruit Loops. According to the article, Mouse Guard fell because it cost too much for a non-franchise film, While On the Come Up was canceled due to The Hate You Give underperforming.

The Avatar films, Kingsman: The Great Game, Fear Street, West Side Story, Free Guy, and Death on the Nile are the only safe ones at the moment.

The Observer also reports that another safe film is Artemis. The film is from Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) based on Andy Weir’s (The Martian) 2017 novel.
