‘Dune’: The First Trailer Returns to Arrakis

Dune, Warner Brothers Pictures

After a long gestation period, the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is here, and honestly, it looks freaking great. This is the first of two proposed films based on the Frank Herbert classic novel of the same name.

Check out the official first trailer for Dune:

The story follows Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet)as his family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. Noble families fight for control of the coveted planet, due to a valuable resource called Melange, or Spice. Spice allows for space travel, making it an extremely valuable resource.

Although the title comes with a fair amount of prestige, the planet Arrakis is a hellish world full of giant sand worms. These worms actually play a part in the production of Spice.

In the wake of a coup, a young Paul Atreides embarks out into the wastelands of Arrakis to seek support in leading a rebellion to reclaim control of the planet for his family.

It’s still a mystery how much the film plans to follow the Frank Herbert books. The original film and the sequel mini-series chose not to follow too closely to the source material.

Dune stars Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
