Everything You Need To Know About How ‘Justice League’ Will Save the DCU
In the wake of the disappointing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder, Warner Bros., and the DC Cinematic Universe were left scratching their heads. After fans voiced their opinions of the film, it seems as though the director and the production team are listening. Journalists were invited to the London set of Justice League last week, where they were met by director Zack Snyder and producer Ben Affleck, who had a message to deliver: We Know and we’re trying. Mistakes were made with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and we are sorry.
This is a message that fans may want to hear. Is Zack Snyder finally listening, and does this mean that we will finally get a decent DC film? Can we stop worrying about Snyder and his vision for the DC Cinematic Universe? Journalists toured the set on day 31 of the film’s 111-day shoot. It appears as though fan outcry has altered the way that Justice League is being handled.
According to Deborah Snyder,
“The main thing we learned [on Batman v Superman] is that people don’t like to see their heroes deconstructed. They like seeing them in all their glory… I think what’s really great is where we’re going is kind of what the audience is wanting. We just had to take the characters from somewhere to bring them up to where they are and that was our journey.”
With the fate of DC’s film future in the balance, this realization couldn’t come a moment sooner. Zack Snyder said of the backlash from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,
“It did catch me off-guard, I have had to, in my mind, make an adjustment… The nice thing about working on Justice League is that it is an opportunity to really blow the doors off of the scale and the bad guys and team-building and all the stuff that I think I could justify as a big, modern comic book movie. While Batman v Superman had to dig down into the darker parts of them to make them fight each other, with Justice League, [Batman and Superman] have both been freed of the shackles of the responsibility to be in a place where they would fight each other, that is liberating for us in making the movie because really now we have a single enemy with a single objective, and it’s really about uniting the team. That, to me, is a fun activity.”
How Will the Justice League Come Together?
At the end of Batman v Superman, Bruce Wayne tells Diana Price that he wants to round-up the metahumans in Lex’s files to help defend the planet against and coming danger in the future. According to Ben Affleck,
“It’s about multilateralism, and it’s about hope and about working together and the kind of conflicts of trying to work together with others, it’s a world where superheroes exist, so there’s comedy in trying to work with other people. People trying to accomplish goals together is the root of all great comedy in my view. So there’s, hopefully, some fun in it. But it’s not unrecognizably these characters or these stories. It’s not turning it upside down.”
