The next live-action adaptation of Alan Moore’s coveted Watchmen series has officially started filming over at HBO. The new series will be a completely new take on the source material. The official Instagram account for the show has teased the first cryptic image for the show, and it is an interesting one.
According to showrunner, Damon Lindelof the new series will not retell the original graphic novel, but it will be a completely new story. The story will stay true to the spirit and tone of the source material but will change the details up.
The first image is an intriguing one, true to the style of the comic. It features a policeman with a bright yellow mask covering his or her face. Check out the image below:
Lindelof also says that the show will be a continuation of the original tale, even stating that the series is the New Testament to the original story’s Old Testament. It is a show that will be heavily influenced by contemporary politics and figures like Trump, Theresa May, and Vladimir Putin. This is an element taken from the original story, which was a product of the Cold War.
The original Watchmen took place in the 1980s, but this series might jump into the present time. This may mean that the show will deal heavily with how the wold has changed since Ozymandias tried to decive the world.
The show stars Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, and Tim Blake Nelson. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will compose the score.
