First Official Teaser Trailer for HBO’s ‘Watchmen’

Watchmen

HBO’s secrecy surrounding the Watchmen television series has kept details from the project from leaking out to the public. The network dropped a few brief teaser clips from the show, but now, HBO officially releases a full-length teaser trailer for Watchmen.

The series is a sequel of sorts to the classic Alan Moore 1980s comic. The original series took place in an alternate version of 1985. In this alternate history, costumed heroes are commonplace. The television series takes place after the events of the original story but will tie directly into it.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Watchmen takes place in an alternate history where “superheroes” are outlaws. While Lindelof (The Leftovers) plans to embrace the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel, the series will also attempt to break new ground of its own.

Damon Lindelof revealed the series is a completely new tale, with completely new characters for the Watchmen universe. The new series will have a time jump in it. Whether it’s set in modern times or not remains a mystery.

There isn’t a synopsis for the series yet. The trailer hints at Rorschach’s Army. This may mean that his journal made it into someone’s hands after the events of the original story.

Who is the villain for Watchmen? Could the new series bring Doctor Manhattan back from exile as the villain, or might it be a completely new character or a jaded descendant of one of the original characters?

So, who watches the Watchmen? Fans will have to wait until the Fall before finding out.
