‘Ghost in the Shell’ Teaser Features Scarlett Johansson Kicking Ass

There isn’t much here, but with the début of the teaser trailer for Ghost in the Shell, Paramount announced that the first full length trailer for the Scarlett Johansson-led film will hit on November 13. In the teaser, Johansson is ‘The Major’ and gives you a 13 second morsel to feast your eyes on. The teaser is only a 13 second clip featuring the Major uppercutting a goon while invisible, then appearing and striding towards the camera. The teaser finishes showing the November 13 date, and the word ‘Tokyo’. Check out the teaser trailer below:

The full length trailer for Ghost in the Shell will début at a special event in Tokyo on November 13. The plot for the film will not be taken from the original animated film. Rather, it will come from the anime series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Here is the synopsis of the film:

“Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.”

The story focuses on Hideo Kuze who is part of the “Individual Eleven”, a terrorist group fighting against Japan. This comes as a surprise. Fans thought that the plot for the film would be the original “Puppet Master” storyline. Producer Avi Arad spoke about why they chose not to go with the “Puppet Master” story:

“I find that part of the reason we didn’t do Puppetmaster in this movie was we didn’t really feel like we had time to tell that story, and in your first movie the way the characters feel about themselves and the relationship with those people that they care about is usually more than enough story for a movie to handle. So there are villains and they do drive a lot of the story, but they are really there to antagonize [The Major] spiritually.”

Ghost in the Shell is due in theaters March 31, 2017.
