Halloween 2021 Review #12 – ‘Halloween H20’

Halloween H20 takes place twenty years after the original movie in 1978. It’s the next movie in our October challenge and the next installment in the Halloween franchise. However, don’t expect to see characters from the last three movies in this one.

A new continuity replaces the Curse of Thorn arc. That means Laurie Strode never had a daughter, nor did she die in a car crash. In fact, this movie makes it clear she faked her death and changed her identity.

The cast for Halloween H20 is crazy. Joseph Gordon-Levitt cameos at the beginning while Josh Hartnett portrays John, Laurie’s son. Michelle Williams also features.

The return of Laurie Strode sees the return of Jamie Lee Curtis in the role. If I’ve learned anything from this movie and the 2018 Halloween, there is no Halloween without her.

Halloween H20 takes place twenty years later. Laurie Strode’s a Headmistress at a private school but lives under a fake name, Keri Tate. She has a slightly strained relationship with her son due to her past making her overprotective of him.

While most of the school goes on a trip during Halloween, Laurie, her son and his girlfriend come face to face with Michael Myers. The moment Laurie and Michael meet again is suspenseful. It takes a while for us to see it happen, but when it does, it’s a fight not to be missed.

Laurie refuses to let her brother live.

While it’s not the best movie ever, I enjoyed it more than the previous entries. It’s a return to what works for the franchise, and I’ll say never say no to a vengeful Laurie who’s had enough.

After all, it’s one of my favorite things about the new Halloween continuity.
