Killer Weekend is a British comedy/horror movie that was released in 2018. It’s directed by Ben Kent and written by him and Joel Wilenius. Furthermore, it’s the twenty-second movie in our October 2021 challenge.
Yesterday I was watching Poltergeist and it’s not an understatement to say these are two completely different movies. Killer Weekend stars Mark Heap, Sean Verey, Danny Kirrane, Ewen MacIntosh and Timothy Renouf.
The movie follows a group of friends going on a stag do. Sam (Verey) is on the fence about everything since his soon to be father-in-law Gerald (Heap) is coming. He knows Gerald doesn’t like him and wants to make a good impression. Unfortunately for him, it doesn’t help most of his friends are immature and still think they’re sixteen.
However, none of this matters as something horrible happens. They go to a zombie experience, and no, zombies don’t end up attacking them. That’s what I thought would happen. Instead, there’s a death and the group needs to find a way to hide it.
As the lie grows deeper, they end up at the mercy of the organisers of the zombie experience. Moreover, to make matters worse, the owners are former soldiers with a lust for blood.
Killer Weekend is more comedy and less horror. If anything the horror doesn’t kick in until the third act. Don’t get me wrong, there is some horror before it but only in short bursts. At one point I was questioning if it was a horror.
Fans of the UK show The Inbetweeners will probably enjoy this the most. Its humor is very specific. Don’t let that put you off as it’s a movie to experience yourself.
As always, Mark Heap steals the show. In Britain, Mark is known for his role in the comedy Friday Night Dinner as the quirky neighbor Jim. In Killer Weekend he plays a different sort of character, although there’s one part where Jim’s mannerisms make an appearance.
Killer Weekend is a good way to pass the time. If you’re looking for something to watch with your friends, this is the movie for you. Fortunately, it’s only 84 minutes so it’s not a slog to get through.
