The Evil Dead 2
If you’re a horror fan reading this, recommending The Evil Dead 2 is probably a moot point. However, if you don’t know your horror movies then might just be discovering this campy work of art. The official synopsis for the movie reads as follows:
The lone survivor of an onslaught of flesh-possessing spirits holes up in a cabin with a group of strangers while the demons continue their attack.
Fans argue over whether this is a sequel or a remake. The first ten minutes recap what happens in The Evil Dead though some story elements are changed. For example, the first movie sees Ash Williams head to the cabin with his friends. However, in The Evil Dead 2 Ash only goes to it with his girlfriend. The recap still ends in the same fashion as the original movie.
Once it’s brought up to speed, we spend most of the movie watching Ash grappling with the forces of darkness. It’s important to note the reasoning for this difference is due to a different company owning the rights to the first Evil Dead movie.
The man behind the camera is well-known in the horror and superhero community. After The Evil Dead franchise, he directed the Spider-Man trilogy and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That’s right, Sam Raimi is the genius mind behind this fantastic movie.
Bruce Campbell plays Ashley ‘Ash’ Williams. It’s a role he keeps coming back to whether it’s live-action, animated or in a video game. Unfortunately, Bruce confirmed after Ash Vs Evil Dead was cancelled he was done playing the character in live-action. His performance as Ash is over-the-top and comedic yet it’s filled with heart. There are great moments with him playing against himself.
The villains of the movie are Deadites. Most of them were once human but their souls were corrupted by the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (the Book of the Dead). In this mythology, the book is created by the Dark Ones and the Kandarian Demon. If you enjoy The Evil Dead 2 you should look further into the world. The Evil Dead, The Army of Darkness and Ash Vs Evil Dead are worth your time.
