It’s nearly Halloween (the spookiest of the seasons). It’s the perfect time to curl up on the sofa, turn off the lights, get the popcorn and watch something spooky. The horror genre is home to a wide array of subgenres. There’s slasher, supernatural, thriller and psychological (to name a few). Looking into them deeper, you’ll find other horrors that can be serious, comedic or irreverent. Campy horror movies are what we’ll be looking at.
The definition of camp in horror alludes to movies that are over-exaggerated, sentimental and a lot of fun to watch. These were all the rage back in the 80s especially. You could even say most of the big horror franchises back then were camp. Friday the 13th definitely got camper as each instalment was released. (see Jason X)
