Halloween: Five Campy Horror Movies to Watch

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

When you think of campy horror movies, there’s one that just about everyone thinks of. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a movie adaptation of The Rocky Horror Show by Richard O’Brien. It’s a musical that still tours every year (or at least it does in the UK). There are also special screenings of the movie with audience participation. It’s a movie with a very passionate cult following.

One of its songs will be familiar to anyone who goes to parties. Time Warp wants you to jump to the left and then a step to the right. When it comes on, there’s not a single person who can resist its charm. In a way, it’s a lot like Frank ‘N’ Furter, the villainous character of the story.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show follows Brad Majors and Janet Weiss. They’re recently engaged and want to tell their old professor about it. On their way there, the car’s tyres deflate and they’re stuck in the rain. The closest shelter is a nearby castle. Once inside, they meet a host of unsavory characters. This includes the mysterious scientist Frank ‘N’ Furter.

It’s Frank’s ambition to build a man with blonde hair and a tan. It’s a twist on the Frankenstein story and focuses on sexual repression. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a larger-than-life tale that tells a human story. It mixes comedy, music and campiness to create an original production. If you haven’t seen it before, this is one to watch.

The cast includes Tim Curry, Richard O’Brien, Susan Sarandon, Meat Loaf, Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell and Jonathan Adams. This marks Tim Curry’s theatrical debut long before he took on the iconic role of Pennywise. Tim, Richard, Patricia and Nell already played the same characters in the stage production.

To this day, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is still one of the biggest musical movies. Fans can’t get enough of the zany story and its irreverent characters.
