Scream
Scream is one of the biggest horror movie franchises. Thanks to the fifth entry released this year, it’s having a resurgence and introducing new fans to the world. The first Scream revolutionised the slasher genre by mixing in a murder mystery with a tongue-in-cheek script. Starring Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox, it’s my favorite horror franchise. However, in 2015 the franchise was brought to the small screen.
Unfortunately, this horror TV series is Scream in name only. The movie cast isn’t in the series nor is Ghostface. Well, a version of Ghostface exists but it’s a different mask based on a completely different killer. It’s set in the present day and uses the advancement of technology to its advantage.
The cast features Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Carlson Young, John Karna and Amadeus Serafini. The official synopsis for the first season is as follows:
After a cyber-bullying incident results in a brutal murder, the shocking violence stirs up memories of a killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. A group of teens — with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart — become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of an assassin who’s out for blood.
The second season continues the story from the first. There’s also a special feature-length episode too. While I enjoyed most of the first two seasons, the special episode would have been better with different characters. Sadly, this version of Scream was cancelled so the full story was never finished.
A season 3 was commissioned on VH1 and has aired. Unlike the last two seasons, this features a completely different cast. I’ve yet to finish it but hope to do it this spooky season! The third season features RJ Cyler, Jessica Sula, Keke Palmer and Tyler Posey.
It also brings back the original Ghostface mask fans of the movies love so that’s always a plus. If that’s not enough to whet your appetite then the third season also sees the return of Roger L. Jackson as the voice of Ghostface. This is the perfect series to watch during Halloween (and maybe watch the movies too).
