How Will Marvel Balance All the Characters in ‘Infinity War’?

Infinity War, Marvel

One of the biggest questions that Marvel fans have moving forward into Infinity War is, how will the vast amount of characters be handled over the course of the two-part film. Infinity War is going to be big, like 68 characters big. The Russo’s were successful with a large cast in Captain America: Civil War, but how would you begin to balance over 50 characters, and still have a great movie?

We have seen many movies attempt a large ensemble cast, most of them failing miserably. Marvel has proven time and again that they can handle the pressures of balancing a story with a big cast, but could the Russo’s be biting off more than they can chew? We already have an example of a Marvel film that didn’t handle a big cast very well, Avengers: Age of Ultron.  Could Infinity War already be set up for failure?

We will just have to see, when the film begins its marketing campaign. In a recent interview with IGN, Stephen McFeely talks about how the film will balance the heroes. He also stresses that they will not be dividing the heroes between the two films, meaning that each part will have all the heroes:

When outlining it, we certainly had those conversations. I mean, in the same way that Civil War, not everyone has the same amount of scenes or lines, I think you can assume with so many characters, we’ll have to be as rigorous. We’ll say that these people will have larger stories, these people will have smaller stories, and hopefully they can flip in some cases. I know of a few right off the top of my head that had a small part here and a bigger part here.

They see too calm to be taking on this monumental project.

Avengers: Infinity War Pt. 1 & 2 hit theaters on May 4, 2018, and May 3, 2019 respectively.
