How Much Longer Does Chris Evans Have as Marvel’s Captain America?

There is no denying that Marvel’s success with their Cinematic Universe has brought a new golden age to comic books and comic book movies at the same time. As Marvel weaves cameos and special appearances by certain characters into every film they make, one question we should be asking ourselves is what happens when the time comes to cast another for a role in the same universe? With the rising costs of retaining these actors and actress, when will the studio look to replacing them?

In a recent interview with USA Today, Chris Evans talked about passing the role of Captain America on to another actor:

I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it. However they want to proceed after Avengers 4, it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.

It has long been rumored that Robert Downey, Jr. may be nearing the end of his role as Marvel’s Tony Stark. It is a role that he was born to play. Who would the studio choose to take the mantle? It would all be contingent on whether Downey, Jr. was done with the role. According to Evans, Downey, Jr. may be a lot closer to stepping down than he is:

Downey is far closer to reaching that point where he may walk away. And I don’t know how you replace Downey as Tony Stark. I don’t know who else can touch that.

The next time Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. will share the Marvel screen will be for Avengers: Infinity War Pt. 1, where they will square off against one of Marvel’s greatest villains, Thanos.

Who do you think would be a good replacement for Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark? Let us know in the comments below.
