Batman has an extensive rogue gallery. Some of them are horrible people who want to watch the world burn. However, there are some who commit evil for their warped sense of doing good. This goes for Victor Fries, also known as Mr. Freeze.

His origin is a sad one. He is a cryogenics expert who is caught in an accident that lowers his body temperature to sub-zero levels. The accident occurs while he’s trying to cure his wife, who has MacGregor’s Syndrome, a fictional disease.

It’s his love for his dying wife that forces him into a life of crime. He needs the money to continue his experiments and he sees turning to crime being the only way of acquiring wealth.

The first half of the movie can focus on this part of his story. It shows his chemistry with his wife and his undying love for her. When she contracts the disease he begins to become obsessed.

When the accident happens at GothCorp, Victor Fries finds out it wasn’t an accident. It turns out his boss at GothCorp believes Victor to be insane and orders his experiment to be destroyed.

The death of his wife sends Victor down an even darker path. This is when the second half of the movie becomes a revenge-driven storyline.

It can be compared to Breaking Bad. Someone who seems good slips into darkness due to unfortunate circumstances. The ideal actor would be between his mid-30s and early 40s.

The age should show he and Nora have been together for a long time, making her loss even more tragic for him.

Victor Fries could be played by someone like Adam Driver. The Fries before his wife’s death needs to be happier but show signs of anger slipping through. This is shown in his portrayal in Star Wars, as well as Marriage Story.

His role as Kylo Ren also shows how well he is at being evil. There’s certainly an award-worthy performance within Adam Driver and I believe this role would bring it out of him.
