‘M: I-Fallout’ Cut Two Big Action Sequences that Were in Trailers for Final Film

Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Paramount Pictures

Whoever says that sequels can’t be great, hasn’t seen Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible Fallout. It is already the best-reviewed film of the year. The film is garnering scores that would make any Academy hopeful join the bandwagon.

Much of the film was left on the cutting room floor. The film (with a 147-minute runtime)  some character development scenes were left out, along with entire action sequences.

The first trailer for the film even has moments that didn’t make it into the final cut of the film. The two scenes missing are the moment where Ethan Hunt is flying a helicopter towards an oncoming truck, and where Hunt is swinging on a cable in the Grand Palais.

You can see screen grabs from both of these moments below:

In an interview with Digital Spy, director McQuarrie says that the reason for the additional cuts is that the film has too many action sequences. He goes on to say that the home release fo the film may include the extra scenes:

“We put together this big, giant film and we were testing the movie, we tested it four times before we finally finished it, and there was just so much action in the movie. We had to choose what was going to stay and what will go.

I didn’t do an extended cut. The movie you see is the director’s cut. I really believe that whatever you see in theatres is what the process delivered.

But there were some moments that we worked so hard on and they were so beautiful, we put together a little gift basket for people on the DVD.”

McQuarrie says he will need time to process whether to come back for M:I 7. With the success of Fallout, it may be hard to resist the temptation.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is currently in theaters.
