Everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has built up to one pivotal occurrence, Thanos reuniting the Infinity Stones and placing them in his gauntlet. This will make Thanos a very difficult villain for Marvel’s heroes to defeat. As Marvel’s phases moved forward, we saw one Infinity Stone after another reveal themselves. Could the last Infinity Stone, the Soul Stone, have been in front of our eyes since the beginning? One Marvel fan theory says yes, and its location will surprise you.
According a fan theory at Comicbook.com, the Soul Gem was revealed to us in the beginning of the MCU. The theory states that Idris Elba’s character, Heimdall in the Thor films has possession of the Infinity Stone, and is either in him, or around him. The theory says:
“In Norse mythology, Odin gives him his sight. Heimdall’s eyes are orange. In Thor: The Dark World, he is quoted saying he can see all the souls in the nine realms. And in Thor’s vision in Age of Ultron, Heimdal is blind. Thanos could have taken the stone from his eyes. It all fits.”
This is an interesting theory, that would be a great reveal for the location of this Infinity Stone. During Guardians of the Galaxy, the Collector explains the origins of the Infinity Stones, the Soul Stone matches the color of Heimdall’s eyes. Heimdall does state that he can see all the souls of every living being. Could this theory be closer to the truth than we know?
Every theory is not void of holes though. But even the holes would be small details that could be overlooked. This theory’s biggest hole shows up during Thor: The Dark World, when it is said that no 2 Stones are kept in the same place. This is why the Aether was given to the Collector. This would also be contradicted during Guardians of the Galaxy, when the Collector exposes the Power Stone (I assume), knowing that he has the Aether in his possession, which is the Reality Stone.
Another bit of evidence supporting this theory is during Thor’s vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Heimdall is seen blinded. Elba will reprise his role as Heimdall in Thor: Ragnarok, and we are sure to see whether this theory will hold up to Marvel’s plan then.
The next Marvel movies are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017, followed by Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 7, 2017, and Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017.
