Could Marvel Greenlight a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Spin-off Film Soon?

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was a smash hit among movie goers and critics alike. It came as a big surprise, because before the film, the misfit team was relatively unknown to the world. Even seasoned Marvel fans found themselves scrambling to learn about the team before they hit theaters.

With the sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hitting theaters soon, and most of the team showing up in Avengers: Infinity War, could there be a possibility of any member of the Guardians would get a spin-off film? Ina  recent interview with MTV, Vin Diesel talked about the possibility. It may be a lot closer than you think:

“It’s something that James Gunn has talked about and something that I knew he would love to do. Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it’s inevitable. That character is so enigmatic and he was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel universe, and I think what Marvel has done, and what James Gunn has done to realize that character, has exceeded beyond anyone’s expectations. It’s just such an interesting character and there’s so much to learn about him. I’d love to go back to his planet and learn more about him, and I think the world would too.”

This would be an interesting spin-off, and one that would give us a little more back story to a character that is beloved by fans, and one that is fundamentally different from anything we have ever seen before. It would be a film I would pay to see, especially if it had Rocket Racoon in it at some point.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters this May.

Avengers:Infinity War will be a two-film series and will be filmed together. The first Avengers: Infinity War film will hit theaters in May of 2018, with the second film coming in May of 2019.
