Multiple ‘Star Wars’ Television Series in Works at Lucasfilm

In a recent shocking announcement, Disney CEO reveals that not only is Lucasfilm working on multiple trilogies set in the Star Wars universe, but there are also television series in the works as well. This would mean there is plenty more Star Wars coming in the future on many platforms.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the television series are in development for Disney’s upcoming streaming service. Here is what Iger had to say:

“We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct to consumer app. We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the interties that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that…I think you’ll find the level of talent…on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

Iger leaked back in November that a Star Wars live-action series was in the works, but does this mean that there are more live-action shows coming as well, or is his statement referring to animated shows as well? Disney is bringing an adaptation of Monsters, Inc. and High School Musical to the streaming service, along with an original Marvel series when it launches in 2019.

What does this mean for the Star Wars universe? Could Disney and Lucasfilm be over-stretching their  reach? Could Lucasfilm over-saturate the Star Wars universe? There are plenty of stories to mine from the EU, but will Lucasfilm finally give fans a tale they love? Is it even possible to do this, or is the bar set to high amongst fans.

As a die-hard Star Wars fan myself, I think that Lucasfilm can give me what I keep looking for. I hold out hope, but It seems that lately I leave the theater wanting more. Each film of the Disney is good, but far from great. Rogue One was a step in the right direction. It showed the potential that good storytelling can achieve. Hopefully Disney and Lucasfilm will figure it all out soon.
