‘Pet Cemetery’ Remake Aims for the Title of “Scariest Movie Ever”

Pet Cemetery, Paramount Pictures

Growing up, one movie stuck with me and scared me to my core, Pet Cemetery. It is a film that remains in my top 20 scariest films of all-time and still holds up today. Stephen King is a master of horror, and his 1983 novel, Pet Cemetery, is one of his best.

In a world that is stuck on renewing the past, it was only a matter-of-time, before Stephen King’s works were once again tapped into, and brought back to the big screen. With the recent success of Andy Muschietti‘s IT reboot, now comes word that Pet Cemetery is next, and it’s horrifying.

In a recent interview with /Film, screenwriter Jeff Buhler says that Pet Cemetery is aiming to be the scariest film ever. This is a big boast from early on in production, but it is one that can only build anticipation for the film. Buhler also goes on about what we can expect from the film:

There may be Victor, there may be some Zelda, and there will definitely be some Louis and Rachel and Gage and Ellie. I will say this, if you love the book, you’ll love this movie. (Directors) Dennis and Kevin are both such visionaries in terms of how they’ve approached it, from not only a horror standpoint but also a character standpoint, and it’s been really gratifying to work with those guys. I think we’re on track to it make one of the scariest Stephen King adaptations ever! That’s our goal anyway.

There is a renaissance going on in the horror world, so tapping King’s greatest works are a no-brainer. Pet Cemetery instantly made my must-watch list. The only thing left to do is to wait until the release fo the first trailer.
