The Magic Order Vol 2 #3 continues its focus between the Moonstones of the Magic Order and the villainous Korne family. Where issue 2 introduces new characters, issue 3 delves into the past. Once again, Mark Millar is writing the issue with Stuart Immonen providing the art. However, before we look at the issue itself, I want to appreciate other people involved with the series.
The colorists for the issue are Sunny Gho and David Curiel, Clem Robbins providing the lettering and Jason Shawn Alexander providing some of the covers. These people are just as important as Mark and Stuart and it’s something I should have touched upon by now.
The Magic Order Vol 2 #3 reveals why the Korne family hates the Magic Order. Even though it’s touched upon, now we’re seeing more about their motivations. More importantly, we’re understanding the Korne family are bad through and through. Their only goal is to bring back their glory days where monsters rule the world before it was made better for humans.
On the other side, the Magic Order protect Wales and Scotland from attacks. Knowing Mark is from Scotland, as am I, it’s great to see Glasgow on the page. What’s better is seeing Scottish slang in action and done right. However, that’s not what will have you on the edge of the seat.
The closing moments are typical Mark Millar and yet it’s something I didn’t see coming. What comes next will be interesting.
The opening pages of The Magic Order vol 2 #3 have some of my favorite art from Stuart Immonen. The use of silhouette heightens the dark and Lovecraftian setting and monsters. This brings me on to the full page of a horrifying monster. The forced perspective to show the height difference between the monster and the castle only serves to create a more terrifying picture.
The Magic Order Vol 2 #3‘s ending will blow your mind… and you only need to wait until tomorrow to see what happens! It hits the shelves Wednesday the 5th of January 2022.
