SDCC 2022: Marvel Studios Drops Release Schedule for Phase 5 and 6

Marvel Studios

It seems like so long now since we had a San Diego Comic-Con that involved a massive Marvel release date dump. Whether you blame the Coronavirus shutdowns, or you blame Disney for trying to create their own event, it’s nice to finally have everyone home.

During Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con panel, Marvel wasted no time hitting fans in the face with a huge surprise, not only a glimpse into the next phase of projects, but the next 2 phases.

This is a huge jump into the future for the studio, but this extended glimpse may serve to quell fan expectations. This is a good thing because fan expectations disappointed some fans with the last two MCU films.

The new dates forecast the MCU release slate through the end of 2026. most of the 2026 films announced were only rumors until now. Marvel essentially confirms that for the next four years, the studio will drop four films a year.

This means that undoubtedly each phase comes with television series releases and potentially animated projects and specials. It’s a lot of Marvel for at least four more years. Sorry team DC. This is an ambitious strategy, even for Marvel.

There are a lot of moving parts for the studio in place, and although as a fan we want direction quickly, these phases feel larger and a slower burn to the next big overarching plot than happened with the Infinity War Saga.

Both phase 5 and Phase 6 will integrate 6 television series’ into their release schedules.

It’s an easy assumption that Deadpool 3 will take one of the ‘Untitled’ release dates, and I personally think that date will be February 14, 2025. Deadpool loves Valentine’s Day releases.
