Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s first credit scene arrives straight after the animated credits.
The scene picks up where the end of the movie left off. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and MJ (Zendaya) land in Times Square where the latter swears off swinging around the city again.
As Spider-Man leaves MJ a breaking news story appears on one of the screens where a reporter shows doctored footage from Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal).
In the footage, he says Spider-Man is trying to kill him and everyone because he wants to be the next Iron Man.
But that’s not all… The footage was exclusively broken by the Daily Bugle, and more specifically the Editor, J. Jonah Jameson. In a surprising, and amazing, turn of events Marvel and Sony have managed to bring back J.K Simmons in the role.
As Jameson appears on screen he announces Mysterio will be remembered as the greatest hero of all time and rolls the last piece of footage… Mysterio outs Spider-Man to the world as Peter Parker.
In a turn of events, it is Peter this time who says “what the f-” before he’s cut off in homage to how Spider-Man: Homecoming finished.
What this means for the future of the MCU is unclear but it seems the next Spider-Man movie will center around Peter’s outing.
Making Spider-Man wanted is the perfect time to bring in a villain like Kraven, who Holland wants to see Aquaman actor Jason Momoa play.
However, the post-credit scene could be a clue to how Peter retains his identity.
