‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequel to Have a Global Setting

Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios

With the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was nice to see that Marvel could play well with other studios, despite not owning all of the movie rights tot the character. They set the precedent that they want what is best for the franchises of their characters, not just their own films. Kevin Feige took a minute to spill a few details how the sequel will take place on a global scale due to its villain.

There is no question as to why a sequel was quickly greenlit, making it one fo the few films announced from the next phase in Marvel’s grand cinematic plan. The big announcement here is that the next film be a global affair. Can you say that Peter Parker is going on a Euro-trip? Holland’s Spider-Man has already fought in Germany, and Avengers: Infinity War will most likely take him to Titan. So it is going to be hard to keep Peter Parker confined to just New York from here on out.

With Parker traveling to Europe, the door opens up on a lot of possibilities. In a recent interview with io9 & IGN Feige talks about the Spider-Man Sequel:

“We start filming early July, we film in London. We shot first film in Atlanta. And we shoot a lot of films in London but there’s another reason we’re shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course, will spend some time in New York, but he’ll spend some time in other parts of the globe.

We loved how the events of Civil War, for as dramatic and intense and politically complex as they were, we loved how Peter dealt with it [in Spider-Man: Homecoming]. And how Peter dealt with it is, he then went and tried to go back to a normal life. What is it like to try to go back to a normal life after what happens in this movie [Infinity War]? Not to mention what happens in the next [Avengers] movie.

It’s fun to see that, because he can represent, you know, the world as a whole, as they try to move forward. And you can do it in a way that is tonally unique, and tonally different from, certainly, the two ‘Avengers’ films that people are about to see.”

Feige went on to tell Den of Geek that the setting of the sequel ties directly to the sequel’s story. It also ties into the identity of the villain in the film as well. This could mean that Kraven the Hunter could be the villain who Marvel is targeting. He is a villain that most fans want to see adapted for the big screen. According to Feige, the sequel’s villain is someone we have yet to see:

“We’ve chosen a villain, and I think the storyline is fairly impacted by the locations we go to. We love the notion of taking Spider-Man to places around the world that we haven’t seen him in before. And we have a villain who I think will play into that nicely.”
