Spider-Man: No Way Home is a hotly anticipated movie. Rumors are suggesting the return of many fan-favourite characters from various live-action Spider-Man franchises. The first trailer revealed the return of Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, as well as teasing some others.
Meanwhile, the second trailer was released at a fan event in LA where Tom Holland was in attendance.
What does the new trailer have in store for us? Take a look at it below:
There you have it folks, conclusive proof we’re getting a full-on multiverse movie! It’ll no doubt go down in history as the greatest superhero movie of all time! Obviously, that’s hyperbole and I was channelling J.Jonah Jameson at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
However, just from the trailer, it’s not wrong to believe there’s a chance it will be one of the best. Speaking of Jameson, we get a quick look at J.K Simmons returning in the role. Although, he looks more like Commissioner Gordon in that one shot than Jameson.
The tone of the trailer is darker than what we’ve seen from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man before. Molina’s Doc Ock is there, and the Scooby-Doo gang pokes fun at his real name. Put some respect on that man’s name, he’s the best thing about the Sam Raimi trilogy!
We also see the Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro and the Lizard. Electro is the character that’s interesting me the most right now. When we last saw him, Electro (Jamie Foxx) was blue in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and yet here he looks normal.
Plus his lightning is yellow and he forms a mask similar to the comics with it.
Sandman’s inclusion is eyebrow-raising since the last time we saw him in the Raimiverse, Peter forgives him. He disappears in a cloud of sand and, possibly, reunites with his daughter. Of course, this only makes sense if it is the Raimiverse one. Perhaps we’re getting a different universe Sandman and that’s why he’s against Spider-Man.
Or, he’s from the events of Spider-Man 3.
Finally, there’s the Green Goblin. I was worried about how the suit would look since it even looked goofy in 2002. However, it didn’t look as bad as it could have. Furthermore, there’s a quick scene that looks like the Goblin loses his mask and we’ll see a more comic-accurate hooded version of the character.
More importantly, it brings back Willem Dafoe. Seeing him, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church and Rhys Ifans is going to be great. It’s the greatest hits of the previous Spider-Men.
Lastly, we see the apparent demise of Zendaya’s MJ. Her falling is a reference to the death of Gwen Stacy. It’s an event that shocked comic book fans and was brought to the big screen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Part of me hopes Tom’s Peter fails and Andrew’s Peter, if he’s in it, saves her.
That would be a great moment. Obviously, this is all conjecture, but it would be a shame to say goodbye to Zendaya in the MCU.
We don’t have long to see what happens though as Spider-Man: No Way Home releases in theatres in a month’s time. Fans in the UK will be able to watch it two days earlier on the 15th of December.
