‘Tales From the Crypt’ Reboot is Officially Dead

Bad news kiddies… Int & TBS president Kevin Reilly confirmed earlier today that the proposed reboot of Tales from the Crypt from director M. Night Shyamalan is officially dead. The hit show was a staple of late-night television in the 1990s, and introduced a generation of kids and young adults to horror’s beyond imagine.

According to Reilly (in an interview with Deadline), the reasons he anthology series was scrapped was an intricate web of rights issues:

“That one got really caught up in a complete legal mess unfortunately with a very complicated underlying rights structure. We lost so much time, so I said, ‘Look, I’m not waiting around four years for this thing.’ Maybe that will come back around but in the meantime, Ridley Scott had come up, who has so much creative enthusiasm.”

Ridley Scott brought a science fiction-based block of programming, and the network is shooting for a 2018 launch, with Scott at the helm. The sci-fi based block will replace the one previously set aside for Shyamalan’s Tales from the Crypt reboot.
