The one saving light to the dismal 2017 list of film releases, is tat no one film will top the utter crap that was The Emoji Movie. This movie breaks records at just how bad it really is. If you don’t believe me, you should go to Netflix and check it out this month. The film was just added to the streaming service. Clarifying that my opinions are not solely mine, The Emoji Movie took top honors at the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards.
The Emoji Movie led other movies with seven nominations. It turned those nominations into four wins. Emoji took top honors for Worst Film, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Screen Combo. Currently holding a 9% on RottenTomatoes, the world was united in their dislike of this film.
A few other films nabbed a coveted Razzie, including Tom Cruise for The Mummy, Tyler Perry for Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, Kim Basinger for Fifty Shades Darker, and Mel Gibson for Daddy’s Home 2. Fifty Shades Darker also snagged the Worst Sequel Razzie.
Baywatch won the Special Rotten Tomatoes Award, which is an award for a film so bad that people actually like it. An amazing thing happened this year. Transformers: The Last Knight led all other films with seven nominations, but left unscathed. Does this mean that it is a good film? This is hardly the case. It took my award for worst film of the year.
What will 2018 hold for movie goers? We will just have to wait to see.
