Currently, James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) is hard at work on the DCEU’s The Suicide Squad, a sequel/ reboot of the 2016 David Ayer film. Gunn shifts focus after Squad to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The next few years will be pretty busy for Gunn, who Shoots on Squad before he moves to Guardians Vol. 3. Both projects are a slight bit of a mystery.
You can check out a few set images captured below, revealing an almost entirely new cast:
In the image above, you can see Peter Davidson (Blackguard), Nathan Fillion (Arms-Fall-Off-Boy), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Sean Gunn (Weasel).
Also seen in the snaps are Flula Borg (Javelin), Michael Rooker (Savant), and Mayling Ng (Nongal). (Not everyone listed is in the photo).
In a recent interview on Instagram, Gunn fielded a few fan questions. He confirms that The Suicide Squad is his most-fun film mostly because of a lack of external pressure.
One notable question was what his most-challenging filmmaking experience was:
“They’re all challenging. Super was physically brutal – so much movie and so little time to shoot it. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 was scary because I didn’t know if people would get the vibe.
Vol. 2 was the hardest because of my mental state. The Suicide Squad is the most complex and biggest but also the most fun so far. So I guess overall Vol. 2.”
Gunn went on to say that Warner Bros. didn’t approach him about The Suicide Squad, rather he chose to do the film. He said that Warner gave him the first choice from their catalog:
“I was basically offered whatever I wanted. I most wanted to do Squad.”
Director James Gunn says that he already is done with a large part of the script work for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Gunn was also asked if the Ravager Kraglin (Sean Gunn) will show up in Vol. 3. Gunn says:
“I have big plans for Kraglin but you’ll have to wait and see what!.”
Gunn goes on to say that we can expect a major character death or two in Vol. 3. I’m calling it now, Gamora kills Peter Quill.
