Get Your .50 cal Pistols Ready, Tomb Raider is Coming Back to the Big Screen
Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM have announced a release date for the upcoming reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise. The set date is March 16, 2018, and the film will star Oscar award winner, Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) as Laura Croft. It was previously assumed that Warner Bros. was leaving this date open for the DC film, The Flash, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Tomb Raider began as a highly successful video game franchise, selling over 45 million copies worldwide. The game starred the lovely Laura Croft, a rich treasure hunter, intent on collecting rare, lost relics. She is modeled as a female version of Indiana Jones. The two films that starred Angelina Jolie, released in 2001 and 2003, grossed $432 million worldwide.
The new film could potentially follow the storyline of the 2013 game reboot, which follows Laura Croft as a young treasure hunter, just beginning to find way. Graham King is set to produce the film.
