Wonder Woman is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The trailers look great, and with last years’ Batman v Superman failing to impress audiences, some are wondering if this film will be the nail in the coffin or the savior for DC films. Patty Jenkins film has recently topped a Fandango audience poll of the most anticipated films of the summer. Wonder Woman beat out other huge summer tent poles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Jenkins talks about the way that she shot the film, and how the studio surprised her when she made a special request.
Jenkins talked about her decision to shot the film on 35mm film rather than Digital in an interview with FOX’s Kevin McCarthy:
“I’ve come up on shooting film and working on film for a long time. Digital has come a long way. Digital does a lot of great things. There are things I really like about digital, but they are not the same and there is some sort of strange myth that ‘Oh, you can do everything now on digital.’
Well if that was true, why do all the great, great, great filmmakers still shoot on film? Is it because they know less, because they’re more haphazard, or because they can’t move on to new information? No. It’s because there’s a certain type of epic grander escapism that film gives you that you cannot – you will struggle very hard – to get that on video.”
Jenkins follows other great directors like Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) and Quentin Tarantino (The Hateful Eight) who shot mainly on 35mm. She actually has Nolan to thank directly for Warner Bros. Pictures allowing her to shoot in the classic format. You can check out the complete interview in the video below:
