Activision Blizzard Studios has high hopes for their upcoming film adaptation of award-winning video game franchise Call of Duty. They believe in the first film of the franchise so much that the studio is already moving forward with a sequel.
According to a recent report from Variety, Black Panther screenwriter Robert Cole is on-board to pen Call of Duty 2. Cole will join writers Stacey Sher, Nick van Dyk, Bobby Kotick, with Coco Francini set to produce. The studio wants to have the script for a send film ready to go when the first film starts production in 2019.
Director Stephano Sollima (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) signed on to direct the first film. Casting for the film hasn’t been announced yet, and no distributor is on-board. Call of Duty is in its early stages but with the studios’ eagerness to proceed, announcements aren’t far off.
Call of Duty is a first-person and third-person shooter video game franchise. There are 15 games in total, and take place during wartime scenarios. Most of the game’s settings are rooted in real history, but recent games have strayed into the dystopian future.
