Hayley Atwell Chimes in on the Captain America/Agent 13 Kiss

If you saw Captain America: Civil War, then there was a moment near the end of the film where you left scratching your head. Shortly after the love of his life, Peggy Carter, passes away, Steve Rogers kisses her niece, Sharon Carter. Fans of the comics know that this is a relationship that happens in the comics, but it is something that could be missed in the films. The relationship was hinted at in Captain America: Winter Soldier, but the big surprise was how in Civil War they just throw it out there. So, what does Haley Atwell (Peggy Carter) think about Cap smooching her niece just a few movie moments after her funeral?

The weird love triangle between Peggy Carter, Sharon Carter, and Steve Rogers is a port over from the comics, and one of the more difficult situations to grasp. Actually, it is a bit creepy to most people, so to say that it is a difficult situation to tackle on film is a bit of an understatement. How many super soldiers frozen for over 70 years have you met lately?

At the Dallas Comic Con Fan Expo, via IGN, Haley Atwell was asked what Peggy thought of the big screen Cap/Sharon kiss, and her reaction was priceless:

Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave. She’d be like “no.” And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well.”

I just feel that, you know – I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, “don’t touch that.” You can’t tap that!

She even commented on the current comic events for Captain America as well, saying, “She’d want the best for her and she’d want her dating a good guy. And now with this whole ‘Hail Hydra’ business, I don’t know if Steve’s good enough for her. So on all levels, it’s just a big fat no.”
