Channing Tatum ‘Ghostbusters’ Film Officially Dead

Last year, word came that there was not only one Ghostbusters film, but two films in the works at Sony Pictures. One of them was an all-female cast reboot (led by Paul Feig), and then other was an all-male film led by Channing Tatum. The winner of this race to the big screen was won by the all-female cast reboot of Ghostbusters. With the recent response to the reboot’s trailer, there is a lot of questions remaining about how good this film will be.

Attached to direct the film were Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo. Many wondered about how the Russo’s would be able to take on the Ghostbusters project with their current commitments to Marvel and their cinematic universe. There has been little to no chatter about the all-male film, and according to Forbes, Joe Russo says that they are no longer attached to the film:

“There is no status with that for us. There was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about Ghostbusters and we were also engaging them. He was further along with his process than we were and he closed his deal so that’s the only Ghostbusters world that’s being explored right now over at Sony. Once we took Infinity War, it took us off the table for any kind of any potential work on a Ghostbusters project.”

This is not good news, and confirms reports last year that had producer Ivan Reitman saying the Tatum spin-off is no longer going forward. This basically means that any hope of another male GB film is not an option, and fans will have to settle with what appears to be a lackluster reboot. Reception of this reboot has not been good with core fans, citing that the studio has not captured to essence of the 30 year old franchise.

Ghostbusters will hit cinemas on July 15th.
