What is in store for the MCU after Avengers: Endgame hits theaters? There is no doubt that our heroes will leave the events of the first 10 years of Marvel films changed in a way.
The only ray of light is that there is another Spidey film in Spider-Man: Far From Home. But where will that film take place in the timeline? Is it a post-Avengers 4 film, or does it take place before the dusting? (Peter Parker died in the Decimation during the events of Infinity War.)
There are rumors of multiple possible directions for Marvel to go post-Endgame. A big project in the rumor mill is The Eternals. Although the film isn’t official yet, director Chloe Zhao (The Rider) is set to helm the film, with Matthew and Ryan Firpo writing the script.
At a recent press day for Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege sat with Collider to give a small update about the future of the MCU. (Little hint, It’s all about Jack Kirby moving forward):
“Everything after Endgame, and after Spider-Man: Far From Home, will be different and be unique, as we try to make every film. But seeing returning characters is certainly something we’re gonna do and want to do.
But also introducing characters that the majority of the world has never heard of, much like Guardians, much like Avengers before we made Avengers. And there are lots of them.
Eternals are one group, but we like the idea of introducing an ensemble, doing an ensemble movie from the start, as opposed to building up as we did with the first Avengers.
More like Guardians, not tonally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people. You were asking about ’60s, and ’70s before. Jack Kirby did an immense, amazing epic with Eternals that spans tens of thousands of years.
That’s also something we haven’t really done, which is why that among many other things post-Endgame, we find appealing.”
