Review – Millarworld’s ‘The Ambassadors #5’

The Ambassadors #5 is the next issue in the newest series from Millarworld. Mark Millar pens the script while Matteo Buffgani provides the art for this issue. The Ambassadors is about a scientist who cracks the code for superpowers. However, rather than giving the powers to a Government or the highest bidder, she promises to give them to six people with a good heart.

While this review is spoiler-free for the newest issue, there will be big spoilers about the last issue. Therefore, if you haven’t read it, don’t read on.

Issue four focuses on a Brazilian Priest who Choon-He Chung believes deserves to be part of The Ambassadors. However, he chooses to give the power to a police officer working for a corrupt regime. With these powers, she fights back against corruption. However, that isn’t all she needs to worry about as Choon-He Chung’s ex is putting together a team of his own and he’ll stop at nothing to steal from her.

The Ambassadors #5 introduces Bob Taylor, the Ambassador for Australia. What seems like a strange choice for the group given their reputation quickly makes sense as secrets are uncovered. Furthermore, the issue delves more into another character we’ve seen once or twice before. It’s obvious the stage is set for something big to go down next time and whatever it is will be interesting to see.

Matteo Buffgani is another familiar face to fans of Millarworld – he was the artist on Prodigy – The Icarus Society. If you haven’t read that one, you should. You’re missing out on a great story and if you think Matteo’s work is amazing here, this barely scratches the surface of what you see on Prodigy. My favorite page of his from The Ambassadors #5 is the very first one when we meet Bob. Although, Matteo continues to impress and my favorite page isn’t even his best work in this issue.
