Review – Millarworld’s ‘The Magic Order Vol 4 #5’

The Magic Order Vol 4 #5 is the latest issue in the Image comic series created by Mark Millar and Olivier Coipel. The spellbinding art for volume 4 comes from Dike Ruan. If you’ve missed the other three volumes, they’re available to purchase online, but more importantly, from your local comic book store. You can find my reviews for the third volume here.

The Magic Order revolves around a group of magic wielders who protect the world from dangerous threats. It also doesn’t shy away from tackling heavy subjects. The story centres around the family who leads The Magic Order – the Moonstones. In particular, it’s the rebel daughter Cordelia whose usually the focus.

The previous issue ends with Cordelia coming face to face with the brother she thought dead. But how does this one start?

The Magic Order Vol 4 #5 shows the fight between Cordelia and Perditus and it’s a spellbinding (literally) battle. This is the kind of battle you read on the page but wish you could see it on the screen. That’s a testament to the writing and to Dike Ruan’s art. On the flip side, the remaining members of The Magic Order are doing their best to stay alive. Meanwhile, Madame Albany’s final preparations are underway and she’s ready to unleash a terrible power.

If you didn’t already know it was the penultimate issue of the volume then you’d understand by what happens.

Or if you’re me, you’ll get to the end, wonder what’s happened and then realise there’s still an issue to go. And, I’m glad there is. I would read a new issue of The Magic Order every day if I could. You can’t go wrong with Cordelia Moonstone and this issue further proves why.

The Magic Order Vol 4 #5 releases on Wednesday 7th June 2023.
