Adapted from the Ernest Cline novel of the same name, Ready Player One infuses a futuristic world that has turned mostly virtual, with pop culture and gaming references from the 1980s and 90s. SCritics say the books pop culture references tend to overwhelm the story. I am currently reading it myself, and I am very much immersed and invested in this world.

The screenplay is written by Earnest Cline and Zak Penn. Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller and Ben Mendelsohn co-star in the film, with Tye Sheridan taking the lead. The novel is full of references to director Steven Spielberg’s previous works. Unfortunately, none of them will be in the film. The trailer is full of references from Ninja Turtles, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Akira, to Joust, Back to the Future, Iron Giant.  It will no-doubt include many, many more.
