Sony Pictures has another secret Marvel film in the works. The studio claimed October 8, 2021 to release an untitled Marvel film.What movie is the studios planning in an already busy 2021?
Sony Pictures currently has three Marvel films coming soon. The Jared Leto-led Morbius and Venom 2 hit theaters this year. The third film in the chute is the third Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, but that already had a theatrical release date of July 21, 2021. If it can’t be one of these other films, what film is Sony secretly working on?
There’s a number of rumored films in production at Sony. The first one is the Black Cat/ Silver Sable movie that had traction a few years ago, but disappeared from headlines as quickly as it appeared. There’s also been speculation of a Nightwatch film.
Kraven’s Last Hunt’s another rumored film, but it’s more likely that he’s the villain in Spider-Man 3 with Peter Parker on the run from the authorities. The safer bet’s another film expanding their drive towards a Sinister Six movie.
No matter what film it ends up being, 2021’s going to be a busy year for superhero films:
February: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
May: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
June: The Batman
July: Spider-Man 3
August: The Suicide Squad
October: New Untitled Sony/Marvel project
November: Thor: Love and Thunder
That’s only the theatrical superhero films. There’s also a number of television shows hitting in 2021, including Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and a Green Lantern series. A few of these dates will move. I just can’t see at least Marvel dropping this many projects in one year. They like to space things out a bit.
Either way, it’s an interesting move by Sony.
