‘Star Wars Episode VIII’ Will be More Character Focused

Director Rian Johnson has not said much about his upcoming film Star Wars Episode VIII. In fact, there isn’t much that is know about the film at all, including the title. There are a few facts that we o know: Episode VIII will continue to follow the characters from The Force Awakens, and will pick up directly after the events of TFA, and not jumping ahead 10 years. In a recent interview he talks about how Episode VIII will feel.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Rian Johnson talks about Episode VIII, saying that this film will not be a darker entry in the new saga:

“I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were.”

Johnson went on to discuss the title of the film, saying that there has been one from the beginning, but he and Disney have chosen to keep it a secret. Does this mean that the title may have a bit of a spoiler in it? This is quite possible. He also says that this movie will dig into the new characters, not just into their backstories:

“I wanted to know more about each of them, and that doesn’t just mean information or backstory… [I figured] out what’s the most difficult thing each of them could be challenged with now. Let’s throw that at them and dig into what really makes them tick by seeing how they handle that”

A lot of questions still circulate about Luke Skywalker and the reasons for his exile, Johnson says:

“I’m approaching it with a take that I hope feels honest and real and is going to be interesting to folks and make sense.”

We should see a trailer from Star Wars Episode VIII sometime in the early spring.
