‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Featuring Jabba the Hutt in the Works at Lucasfilm

Star Wars Fan Art, Mike Nash

This week was full of Star Wars news, with reports that Lucasfilm has a number of spin-off in the works. The next one will be the Stephen Daldry Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, followed by the posibility of a film featuring everyone’s favorite Mandalorian bounty hunter Boba Fett. A new report states that another spin-off is also in the works, and it features the slum world gangster Jabba the Hutt.

In a recent report at Variety, a Jabba the Hutt spin-off film has been in the works for quite some time at Lucasfilm. Jabba is the worm-like ganster featured in Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace. A film featuring him would be an interesting departure for Lucasfilm from their hero-centered film, and would give anti-heroes a moment to shine in the Star Wars universe.  There are plenty of Rogues in Star Wars lore to mine from, so it would be interesting how a film like this would shape up.

Could the film take us back in time to see how Jabba Desilijic Tiure built up his criminal empire? It would have to go back in time, because the famous Hutt met his demise in Return of the Jedi.

There are no official films dates set for release after Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX. You can bet that with the recent spin-off announcements that release dates will come soon.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
