The Disney-Fox Deal Is Officially Complete

After almost two years the Disney-Fox acquisition is finally over. Disney buys 21st Century Fox, acquiring key entertainment assets on 12:02 a.m. US-EST on March 20. The deal cost Disney a whopping $71.3 billion.

The announcement comes courtesy of 21st Century Fox. Fox is the newest property to join the Mouse workhorse. Now there is Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and the House of Mouse, all under one roof.

Shareholders from Fox and Disney approved the deal in July of last year. The finalization needed to jump through a number of regulatory hoops and approvals.

The purchase brings a number of big properties under Disney’s umbrella. Alien, Avatar, Planet of the Apes, The Fantastic Four, and X-Men are just a few of the amazing titles Disney gains. They also gain the sole distribution rights to the original 1977 Star Wars film.
