Although the X-Files reunion season was a huge hit with fans of the show, the weakest episodes were by far the mythology ones. It appears that Chris Carter and crew realized this, and are changing gears for Season 11. The show will only have two mythology episodes, with the rest of the 10-episode season focusing on monster-of-the-week episodes.
The announcement came at a recent Television Critics Association event, where Fox entertainment chairman David Madden confirmed that the new season will be mostly monster-of-the-week-style episodes. Some cite that X-Files show creator Chris Carter may be the problem behind the writing for the show, citing that episodes he wrote were some of the weakest.
Madden also talked a bit about the story arc for X-Files Season 11 with EW:
Madden also teased a bit about season 11’s storyline. “We start the season right up from where the season finale left off with that big helicopter and takes you right from there,” he says. “You’ll be launched into a very urgent adventure that has a lot to do with William — Mulder and Scully’s kid. So the search for William will be a significant thread through the show. You will see the Cigarette Smoking Man [William B. Davis]. You may see The Lone Gunmen somewhere along the line. There will be other characters from the previous mythology that will be reprised.”
The show began filming on August 4, which is a bit sooner than expected:

The X–Files follows the careers and personal lives of FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Mulder is a talented profiler and strong believer in the supernatural. He is also adamant about the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life and its presence on Earth.
More X-Files is always good, regardless of which episodes the new season will bring. Seeing Moulder and Scully team up again was a refreshing sight. Their chemistry picked up right where it left off when the show was originally cancelled.
