Avengers 4 remains a bit of a mystery to fans at the moment. It is as if Marvel is allowing plenty of time for the events of the ‘The Snap’ to sink in fully. There are few details about the plot of the film, allowing rumor mills to run rampant with assumptions about it.
In a recent appearance on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, Frank Grillo confirmed that he will return to the MCU as Crossbones in Avengers 4. He goes on to say that his appearance is only in flashback form, as his character blew himself up during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Grillo says:
[Crossbones] makes an appearance in the next Avengers movie, but it’s a flashback. And I’m allowed to say whatever I want because I’m never doing another Marvel movie…because I’m 117 years old.
The actor says that he isn’t returning again because of his age, but this is something Marvel isn’t straying away from. Age is never a factor for the MCU, as Marvel introduced a number of well known and popular characters in older stages of their lives. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) is a prime example of this. Pym had a long life in the comics and didn’t enter the MCU until he was in later stages of his life.
