A circus acrobat who meets his end at the hands of the Hook receives power from a Hindu Goddess. Rama Kushnu bestows powers upon him to possess living beings so he can find his killer.
He realizes he can also use his powers to help others. Boston becomes the Deadman who intervenes in the lives of mortals for the better.
Furthermore, he is also a funny character. He is full of one-liners and humor that contrasts the darkness of the other JLD members. With his balance of comedy and drama, having an actor with a comedic past seems a good avenue to pursue.
Zac Efron is an actor who has dabbled in comedy and drama. While some still see him as Troy Bolton from High School Musical, he has plenty of other roles that show he’s more than that.
His roles in Dirty Grandpa, Bad Neighbors, and Baywatch are an example of his comedic timing. As for when he needs to be serious, well you only need to look at Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Vile and Evil for that.
While portraying Ted Bundy, Zac Efron brings a boyish charm that conflicts with his darker attitude. Deadman switches between the two and this is something Efron does with ease.
Zac Efron as Boston Brand is similar to Matt Bomer as Mr. Negative in Doom Patrol. Most of the time it’ll be somebody else playing the part but his voice and ghostly presence will be Zac Efron.
He’s also a name that will bring in fans of different genres and open up a new world to them.
My next suggestion is Saturday Night Live member Colin Jost. For the most part, Colin Jost is the co-anchor of Weekend Update. Most of the Weekend Update comedy comes from set-ups and one-liners.
These are the specialties of Boston Brand, and Colin Jost has finely tuned his comedic timing for that.
While it’s up in the air what his other acting skills are like, since Deadman could mostly be voice acting then it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
However, if he needs to be onscreen more he can always get acting lessons from his fiance, Scarlett Johansson. Colin Jost is a wildcard but it’s been proven before that wildcards are not always the wrong choice.
