Six Interactive Messenger Games to Play On Your Phone

Duskwood

Duskwood was the game that dragged me into the interactive messenger world. Well, technically that was Simulacra, but Duskwood was the first episodic free-to-play one I played. This game comes from another German studio. This time it’s Everbyte. Take control of a character who’s contacted by the boyfriend of a kidnapped girl. For some reason, he found your number and you’re currently the number one suspect in her kidnapping.

It’s up to you to make Hannah’s (the victim) friends see you’re not the kidnapper. Once you do, you have to help them find her. Along the way, you’ll face a dreadful foe who calls themselves the Man Without a Face. The figure comes from a story about the town of Duskwood. I won’t tell you the story as it’s more interesting when Jessy tells it to you.

You’ll meet Jessy quickly and if you’re like most players, she’ll become one of your favorite characters.

You’ll also meet a hacker hiding under the name Nym0s. In a similar way to The Healing, you don’t know the characters yet. You also live in a different location. Whether that’s in a different town or country, it’s unclear, but you can pretend it’s where you live. Your relationship choices are few. If you’re a male MC there’s only one you can romance that I remember.

It’s possible you can romance others but I never did that with them. If you’re a female MC then there are a couple more options for romance or harmless flirting.

However, romance isn’t an important aspect of the game. So, if that’s not something you want, don’t worry about it. The main goal is to learn everything you can about Hannah, find out why someone would want to kidnap her and uncover who’s behind the mask. It is just a normal person… or is it a story that’s come to life?

You’ll also find minigames in Duskwood too. These must be completed in order to advance through the game. Also, there are 10 episodes to complete the series. Duskwood as well as the games from Reality Games are a time commitment. Trust me, though, when I say that they’re worth it.

Duskwood is available on iOS and Android. A new game taking place in the universe but with new characters is currently in the works.

Next – Simulacra 3
