Six Interactive Messenger Games to Play On Your Phone

Scriptic

Originally Dead Man’s Phone, Scriptic was relaunched this year with a new name and more content. This interactive messenger game comes from Electric Noir Studios, a London-based studio. This game is split into different seasons. However, you’ll need to pay for either the full season or each episode. Each episode is $3.99 individually or $12.99 for the whole season. If you pay per episode, the price for the season reduces.

Fortunately, for those who may be unable to afford the game at that point, there are other options. The first episode of the two seasons is free. That means you’re able to taste what the season will be like before deciding on purchasing it.

Furthermore, there’s the dispatch content. You play as a dispatcher for London Yard and your goal is to get the best possible ending. Some of the episodes are powerful and may leave you breathless. Meanwhile, other episodes might make you laugh at their absurdity (in a good way). I’ve only played the first three so far. This is due to the others only dropping recently.

Thankfully, they aren’t that long so if you get a bad ending you can replay them.

The first season is Redman. This is the one that started it all. You play as a new detective and choose your name. Your first case is to discover who killed a teenager. If that sounds heartwrenching wait until you play it. The one thing Scriptic does well is taking events in the world and twisting them into their stories. Redman is no different. To talk any more about the story is to verge into spoilers and I don’t want to do that. You should play this one blind.

My one piece of advice is to make sure you’re emotionally ready for it.

The second season is Unmasked. After the previous season, you’re back on a new case. This time, you’re tracking down the murderer of an AllMyFans creator. Her body parts are found dismembered in the woods. It’s up to you to go through her chat history, talk to witnesses and delve into the world of online sex work. Much like the previous season, you should only play the game if you’re ready.

It isn’t spoilers to say the season touches upon how dangerous the life of a content creator is. That goes doubly for the type of content creator Gemma Dream (the victim) is.

Scriptic is available on iOS and Android. It also recently launched on Netflix as an interactive game.
